EGCMA has a role in distributing funding for Landcare activities in the region.
Regional Landcare Management Structure
The Regional Landcare Coordinator employed by the East Gippsland CMA provides strategic guidance, coordination and support for the Landcare program across the East Gippsland region. The position is focused on establishing links between state government priorities for investment and Landcare regional priorities.
Landcare in East Gippsland is organised into three networks: East Gippsland Landcare Network, Far East Victoria Landcare and Snowy River Interstate Landcare Committee. The area covered by these networks is approximately 742,000 hectares.
The East Gippsland Landcare Network comprises 24 groups in the Bairnsdale and High Country regions. It is managed by a committee of members from different groups in the region. It employs three staff who support individual Landcare groups.
Far East Victoria Landcare comprises 6 Landcare groups located between Nowa Nowa and the Victorian-New South Wales border. It employs 2 staff members to support Landcare groups and carry out projects and host the federally funded Regional Landcare Facilitator.
The Snowy River Interstate Landcare Committee comprises 1 group on the Victorian side of the border with New South Wales. Their staff are shared with the 8 Landcare groups in south eastern New South Wales.
