A substantial program of works to prevent the deepening and widening of the lower Cann River has recently been completed.
Recent works on the Cann River downstream of the Princes Highway Bridge complete a program planned and started some years ago to stabilise the river and increase its resilience to flood events.
A total of $650,000 in funding from the 2012 Flood Recovery Program was used to install pile fields and large logs that have been designed to prevent the deepening and widening of the river. The works will also help to reduce sediment entering Tamboon Inlet.
The next phase of works will involve weed control and revegetation to encourage the regeneration of native plants which will provide natural form of stability in the bed of the river and along the banks.
