The Gippsland Plains features some of the region’s most productive farmland although the remnant native vegetation across the plain is scarce and highly fragmented.
Alpine Peatlands are a very important and scarce ecological system. There are only 4,480 hectares of alpine peatland, all found in high elevations of the Victorian Alps.
